Passive Fix

The Leicester (ish) based Passive Fix recently released 'I'll Take It All' - an absolute monster of a track. For new listeners, this is a fine introduction to the Passive World. Actors, musicians, film makers - this young band can seemingly do it all, and with panache. 'I'll Take It All' is actually lifted from the soundtrack to the band's upcoming short movie 'A Divine Descent', which premieres on June the 23rd. With festival appearances and gigs scheduled, there is also ample opportunity to experience Passive Fix live too.

At the beginning of the month, The Spase returned after an absence with the absolutely fine single, 'Glue'. Since its release the song has received plaudits from across the spectrum from bloggers to music fans to radio hosts. The energy here is raw and 'Glue' has an authenticity that is rarely heard. We can't wait to hear more from the band.

Vice Killer released 'The Red Sky' a couple of months back and we thought we would write some words on what is the County Durham band's finest hour to date. The lead guitar sound here is infectious and demands multiple plays and along with yearning vocals of frontman Thomas Gilling, the quality here is immediate to hear. Recorded in Liverpool with Al Groves (Oasis, The 1975), lets hope that 'The Red Sky' is a precursor to more great music from Vice Killer.

As we are catching up with releases, it would be a crime not to mention Wild Horse and their single 'Angles' that was released in April. The band have since completed a tour and released a further single called 'Tangled' but don't let that stop you from discovering gems like 'Angles' that lie confidently in the band's catalogue. This is a song full of bravado and flair from the indie trio - as the band themselves say: "Wild Horse sound like what putting on a new suit and lighting a cigarette to go on a night out feels like."

The German five-piece Still Talk brought us 'Headcheck' back in the spring, the first single that was released from their debut album. With hints of a pop-punk sound that reigned supreme in years gone by, Small Talk have put a contemporary edge to this standout single.

Back up to the North-East of England now and Newcastle band St. Buryan opened their account this year with 'Illogical'. Incredibly catchy, the song is pretty fun and memorable too. The story belies the upbeat nature of the music but that's all good. St. Buryan have a great single on their hands here and we wait for their next release with eager anticipation.

And finally, The Heavy North feature with their release 'Where Are You Now?'. The blues-rock band never, ever fail to deliver and their hard work and high standard of releases that go with that is something to be admired. Last year they completed a ten-date headline tour and released their critically acclaimed album 'Electric Soul Machine' - the momentum rolls on with new single 'Round Again' on the horizon, album number two on the way and an appearance and Kendal Calling next month.
